Les Britanniques sont réputés pour leur décontraction, mais aussi pour leur sens de la discipline. On reconnait leur progressisme, mais on s’étonne des privilèges dont jouit encore leur aristocratie. On les trouve polis, puis on se confronte à la grossièreté des supporters de certaines équipes sportives. Les contradictions et les fractures semblent ainsi s’inscrire aux fondements de cette nation qui, il n’y a pas très longtemps, régentait la moitié du monde.
